ST. O’DONNELL’S SELECT GALLERY PROFILE : TRIPPING ARTCHIE
Briarna Lee, AKA Tripping Artchie is a mixed media artist whos creative mind and love of all things nature is evident in her work. We caught up with Bri, to find out a bit more about her and her artistic approach
So who is Tripping Artchie and where does the name come from?
Ive been asked this question a few times before, plain and simple…I do not know. I have been told I have a terrible memory…so this is another one of those times I guess
Which artist/s would you say have influenced you the most? How do we see this in your works?
Every artist I’ve come across. Whilst you may not always like a particular kind of art, I think every artwork can be appreciated for something. Whether it is created by the most famous artist in the world or your cousin who is 5 that drew her first dinosaur, they all have a special meaning because they are made from someones inner creative being. My artwork is a big blend of everyday things that I have been inspired by.
If you could travel anywhere in the world to work on your art where would that be? Why?
A small log cabin with a fire in the middle of Alaska or a remote place in Canada…with a view of the mountains surrounded by pine trees and grizzly bears. I think being cut off from the rest of society, creating artworks surrounded by nature would be a pretty great set up.
Once you’ve wrapped up at your job and you’ve decided to take a rest from working on your art what/where will we see Bri on a regular night out? Some form of bar with music and friends
We’ve personally been on many an adventure but is there one particular story that you would like to share that sums Briarna Lee perfectly?
The time I unknowingly left my house keys at a restaurant in Newtown and then went to see a gig at Marly bar…2 bottles of wine deep I got back to my apartment. When the restaurant is closed, there is no viable bed option at the door step and your house mate is asleep, Coogee Beach provides a pretty nice sleeping spot..I recommend it for others…maybe not so much in winter though
Fast-forward five years down the track, where do you see Tripping Artchie?
Firstly I would like to have taken an early retirement at the ripe age of 28, through some form of inheritance or lottery. This would have allowed me to quit my 9-5 job as a town planner and take up art full time. Hopefully Tripping Artchie would be out there creating more artworks which could be enjoyed by people, whether that made me particularly well known or not.
You can catch Tripping Artchie and other local artists at our upcoming “Select Gallery #002.
